Player Hockey Equipment
What Do They Need?
Required Equipment — Buy New or Used
It is mandatory that all players, without exception, wear all required equipment for all games and practices. Some stores sell used equipment, at lower prices, which can be a great alternative to purchasing new. Be sure when you purchase used equipment that it is in good condition. We recommend that certain pieces of equipment only be purchased new (eg. Helmets).
MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:
- CSA-approved helmet + full cage mask
- Mouth guard (optional for PreNovice)
- Combined athletic cup & garter belt; or boxer-style “jock”
- Neck guard
- Shoulder pads
- Elbow pads
- Shin pads
- Hockey gloves
- Skates - must be sharpened regularly
- Practice jersey
- Hockey socks
- Hockey stick (wood) for beginning player
- Black or colored tape for hockey sticks
- Hockey equipment bag
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT:
- Skate guards
- Velcro elastic shin straps (clear tape can be used instead)
- Under Armour / long underwear
Mouth Guards
Your family dentist can usually fit your child for a good-fitting mouthguard for only a little more than a store-bought mouth guard. They will fit better (some dentists may provide a remake when new teeth come in) and the players find it easier to breathe with these more compact mouth guards.
